South Africa are set to take on India in an action-packed tour from November to December 2025, featuring two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. The Proteas have announced a strong squad blending experience and youthful firepower.

From Bavuma’s leadership to Brevis’s explosive hitting, here’s a full breakdown of every South African player – stats, ICC rankings, recent form, predicted impact, and Vegas11 fantasy insights.

SA Team Test Squad

South Africa Test Squad

Temba Bavuma made history as South Africa’s first black African Test centurion and the first black cricketer to captain the Proteas. A technically solid right-hander, he’s known for his grit and reliability at the crease.

He debuted for South Africa in 2014 and scored his maiden Test hundred against England in 2016 at Cape Town. The same year, he hit a century on ODI debut versus Ireland. In 2021, Bavuma was named South Africa’s limited-overs captain, leading the team through key tournaments including the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup.

Though injuries and form have challenged him, Bavuma remains a key figure and an inspiration for future generations of South African cricketers.

Tony de Zorzi, a promising 20-year-old South African left-hander, rose through the age-group system and earned his first break with Pretoria Mavericks in the Global T20 League. He made his Test and ODI debuts against West Indies in 2023 and later scored his maiden ODI century (119*) against India.

With Dean Elgar’s retirement and Quinton de Kock’s exit, de Zorzi now has a key opportunity to cement his spot at the top of South Africa’s batting order.

Aiden Markram, a classy right-handed batter from Centurion, first made headlines by leading South Africa to the 2014 U-19 World Cup title. After early struggles with form and injuries, he bounced back under Mark Boucher’s guidance, making a stellar Test debut in 2017 and scoring a memorable 152 vs Australia in 2018.

At 23, he became South Africa’s second-youngest ODI captain and later reinvented himself as a consistent middle-order batter and part-time off-spinner. His leadership peaked in 2023 when he led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the SA20 title, earning him the South Africa T20I captaincy and an IPL captaincy role with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Markram is now seen as one of South Africa’s most composed and versatile modern cricketers.

At just 19 years and 113 days, Zubayr Hamza became the fourth youngest South African to score a double century in first-class cricket (against Namibia in 2014). He later earned promotion to the Cape Cobras setup, admired for his solid technique, balance, and patience—traits inspired by his idol Jacques Kallis.

A product of Rondebosch Boys’ High School, Hamza represented South Africa Schools and captained the Western Province U-19 side. Although he narrowly missed the U-19 national squad, he was later picked for the Jo’burg Giants in the planned 2017 Global T20 League (which was eventually cancelled).

Standing 6’8” tall, Marco Jansen is a left-arm fast bowling all-rounder known for his pace, bounce, and swing. Discovered by his father after scoring 164* at age 9, he and his twin brother Duan gained early attention as India’s net bowlers in 2018, impressing Virat Kohli at just 17.

Jansen made rapid strides in domestic cricket, debuting in List A (2017–18) and First Class soon after. His ability to bowl at 140 km/h with swing and yorkers earned him an IPL 2021 contract with Mumbai Indians, later moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He debuted for South Africa in Tests (2021 vs India), followed by ODI and T20I (2022), and featured in both the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup, emerging as one of the Proteas’ top all-format bowlers.

Kagiso Rabada is South Africa’s premier fast bowler, known for his pace, accuracy, and consistency across all formats.

He first rose to fame in the 2014 U-19 World Cup, taking 6/25 vs Australia and finishing as South Africa’s top wicket-taker. On his ODI debut against Bangladesh (2015), Rabada made history with a hat-trick and 6/16, the best debut figures ever.

After debuting in Tests vs India (2015), he quickly became South Africa’s strike bowler, starring in England (2016) with multiple five-wicket hauls and leading the attack during the 2016–17 Australia tour. Known for his seam movement and reverse swing, Rabada has maintained bowling averages under 30 in both Tests and ODIs.

He has faced disciplinary issues for his aggressive celebrations but remains the backbone of South Africa’s bowling unit, achieving the No.1 ICC ranking in both Tests and ODIs. Highlights include a T20I hat-trick vs England (2021) and a fifer at Lord’s (2022).

In the IPL, Rabada won the Purple Cap (2020) with 30 wickets for Delhi Capitals and now plays for Punjab Kings, continuing to be a key wicket-taker.

5 South African Players to Watch in India Tour 2025

  1. Dewald Brevis – Batter

Why he stands out: He combines genuine 360° hitting power with notable red-ball strides (Test debut fifty; strong domestic run-glut).

He can flip games in 20-ball bursts and is visibly improving against spin.

India fit: Excellent at lofted straight hits; punishes pace-on at the death – a big plus in subcontinent white-ball setups.

Risk flags: Shot-selection early in his innings can be erratic; higher variance when converting in Tests.

Dewald Brevis pic 2
Dewald Brevis pic 1

Vegas11 note: Ideal T20I captain/vice-captain pick in batting-friendly venues, good punt in ODIs when conditions favour his style.

Player Resource Info:

2. Marco Jansen – Bowling Allrounder

Why he stands out: Standing at about 6′8″ with left-arm pace, he generates bounce and genuine wicket bursts.

Plus useful lower-order runs. His ceiling is still rising.

India fit: Offers new-ball value plus reverse-swing windows; his angle is especially tricky for right-handers, which is helpful in sub-continent conditions
.
Risk flags: Workload and consistency have been a patch sometimes; some dips in recent outings.

Marco Jansen pic 1
Marco Jansen pic 2

Vegas11 note: Good floor in Tests (wickets + batting points); big-strike bowling punter in ODIs/T20s

Player Resource Info:

3. Tristan Stubbs – Wicket-keeper / Batsman

Why he stands out: He’s an elite ball-striker with proven finishing pedigree in franchise leagues; his keeping adds flexibility.

India fit: Strong against pace, effective at hitting straights; if he’s promoted up the order he can turn a T20 chase on its head.

Risk flags: Role can float (batting slot inconsistent); limited Test sample so far.

Tristan Stubbs pic 1
Tristan Stubbs pic 2

Vegas11 note: High-ceiling T20 captain pick on small boundaries, an ODI punt if the finishing role is confirmed.

Player Rescource Info:

4. Ryan Rickelton – Wicket-keeper / Batsman

Why he stands out: A red-ball run machine with centuries (including double-ton credentials) and his white-ball game is improving steadily.

India fit: Compact technique vs spin, patience for long innings; capable of locking in top-order stability.

Risk flags: White-ball strike-rate occasionally lags; selection squeeze because of multiple keepers.

Ryan Rickelton pic 1
Ryan Rickelton pic 2

Vegas11 note: In Tests he’s a safe vice-captain pick on slower decks (volume runs).

Player Resource Info:

5. Tony de Zorzi – Batter

Why he stands out: Left-handed opener who recently scored an ODI hundred vs India; he has the temperament for longer knocks.

India fit: Left-hand bat gives specific match-up value; when he opens he can tire bowling attacks and open scoring windows for the middle order.

Risk flags: Conversion from starts to big scores remains a question; handling high-quality spin early in innings is still a test.

Tony de Zorzi pic 1

Vegas11 note: In Tests he’s a steady pick; in ODIs an anchor punt when his role is clear.
